Divisions:

Design

The skills and experience of the Commercial and Technical teams enable us to participate in the decision making process from the initial concept stage of all projects. Interpretation of customer requirements, selection of performance-related materials and a prototyping approach are key aspects of the design phase. Experience enables us to produce and enhance approved designs using the 3D CAD system crucial for the development of precision tools.

Tool Making
Slatebonds engineers offers an in house tool making operation and sub contract machining facility using our range of Mitsubishi multi axis CNC wire and die sinking machines, with full CMM inspection backup supported by our ISO 9002 quality system.

The tool making operation ensures that the seamless link between design and production is focused on precision and quality. Moulds are produced and enhanced using the latest technology to achieve optimum performance. The use of CNC equipment ensures that the tool making operation can work closely with the Technical team to produce tools for rapid prototyping and production of precision moulding.

Our Engineering team also offers a sub contract service using the companies full facilities which is suitable for one off tool / prototype components. Production runs of large quantities may also be suitable for both wire and die sinking machines.

Production/Moulding
Precision mouldings are produced from our extensive range of computer-controlled moulding machines (25 tonnes - 125 tonnes). Leading technical design enables us to produce two-shot and micro-shot mouldings in a continuous production environment. Automated quality systems have been built into our machines to ensure that quality attributes are maintained at all times, including through the night operations.

Second Operations
Slatebondıs second operations department provides both automated and hand-operated production of moulded components. There are dedicated sections for the machine assembly of food items, which are untouched by hand, to guarantee the highest industry standards. Hand-operated machinery is used in the assembly of precision engineering parts (e.g. sonic welded) and high precision machining of plastic parts is controlled by computer-operated machinery.

Quality Inspection
To further ensure production quality, our Quality Inspection department uses CMM measuring devices, which have integrated statistical process control systems. This simplifies the quality inspection tasks that are placed on high volume production operations and enables us to work to current British manufacturing standards (ISO9002) and ensure the development and production of high quality products.

Management:
The management and operation of Slatebond's business ensures that we offer a complete package from product concept, production and assembly. Our core skills and expertise are detailed below:

Slatebond Founder:
John Ingram
started Slatebond in 1982. He was very actively involved in Slatebond from its start until December 2003. In March 2004 sadly John passed away after battling cancer for approximately three years. Slatebond, as a company, has not changed since John’s departure due to the Management team, put in place by John over the span of the past 22 years. Business today at Slatebond still reflects John’s aims and objectives for the company.

Directors:
Jane Higson – Jane has been with Slatebond since 1990. Her role at Slatebond has always been of a financial nature. As John Ingram’s daughter, Jane has been involved in management decisions and since John passed away Jane has been made co-Director. As Slatebond is still a family-run business, Jane’s main responsibility is to act on behalf of the Ingram family.
David Naish – David has had an association with Slatebond for a number of years. Firstly as an Accountant providing tax advice and then as a Shareholder. David became a Director of Slatebond approximately two and a half years ago, alongside John Ingram. David now provides Slatebond with leadership and guidance.

Operations Manager
Derrick Hartley – Derrick has carried out a number of roles at Slatebond. His background is Quality Control and is now responsible for the general running of the Company.
Commercial Manager
Ken Ireland – From May 2006, Ken has been appointed as Commercial Manager. He has been with Slatebond since May 2005, firstly working as an Account Manager, responsible for bringing new sales and contacts to Slatebond. Ken has over 25 years commercial, technical and managerial experience in the Plastics, Rubber and Toolmaking industry which enhances our existing management team strengths.
Account Manager
Adrian Mumford – Adrian’s early retirement wishes, meant that he stood down as Commercial Manager in May 2006 and assumed the part time role of Account Manager. Adrian will remain the main point of contact for some of his key accounts with whom he has strong historical relationships, whilst offering Ken support through the benefit of his knowledge and experience acquired during his 19 years with Slatebond.
Technical Manager Robin Silman is responsible for the key aspects of the design phase for all projects, including material selection, tooling and production techniques.
Tool Room Manager John Hine manages the tool room operations and provides the crucial link in all projects once designs have been agreed.
Moulding Shop Manager Frank Wood leads a small, dedicated team to ensure that high quality moulding is achieved around the clock.
Project Manager Ken Hunt provides a wealth of experience in the management and delivery of large-scale technical projects.
Sales Office Administration Anne Butts is the first point-of-contact at Slatebond. Anne offers a great deal of experience and ensures that all customers enjoy the benefits offered by the company team
